Virtual COM Port Driver Overview

The EDAS Virtual COM Port Driver allows your PC (running Windows) to recognize the COM ports of a remotely located EDAS as local COM ports. Using this driver, you can communicate with serial devices which are connected to remotely located EDAS COM ports using the same programs you use to communicate with these devices when connected to COM ports which are physically located on your PC. Any of the remote COM ports on an EDAS unit can be used, including the RS-232 and RS-485 ports found on the EDAS-1001E and EDAS-1002E systems, and the RS-232 ports on EDAS-1025E systems. The COM Port Driver also provides a means for you to configure the EDAS COM ports with the desired baud rate, parity, and flow control options.

The Virtual COM Port Driver includes a software configuration utility which allows you to define the local COM port names which will be implemented by the EDAS COM Driver, and to associate them with remote EDAS units. The configuration program supports definition of any local port in the range COM1 to COM32.
