Using a Spectrum24 Card

Overview

  Using the Spectrum24 PCMCIA card from Symbol, or other Wireless Ethernet IEEE802.11 PCMCIA card, provides a means of connecting the unit to an ethernet network without network wiring. Currently, the preferred method of accomplishing this is to boot from an SRAM Card in one slot, using the Wireless Ethernet card of your choice in the other slot. We're using Symbol's Spectrum24 card with NDIS drivers in the example provided below. You can contact us at app_eng@lanpoint.com for a zip'd file that contains all the files necessary for the SRAM card to boot with the Spectrum24 card and either the NDIS or ODI drivers.

UNIT CONFIGURATION FOR THE SPECTRUM24
  The following system files are examples of using the Symbol Spectrum24 card in the unit. Other manufacturer's Radio Frequency networking cards can be used just as easily.

SPECTRUM24 NDIS AUTOEXEC.BAT FILE
  NOTE: LDRIVER, LPPINIT, DISTRACK, and PMADJUST are rem'd out in this example for a 'C' model LANpoint PRO/FACTORYpoint PRO. For a 'B' model LANpoint PRO, simply remove the "rem"s and make sure the 4 programs are on the PCMCIA SRAM card.

rem LDRIVER
rem LPPINIT
rem DISTRACK

LH \DOS\DOSKEY
PROMPT $p$g
PATH a:\dos;a:\net

rem PMADJUST

A:\NET\net initialize
A:\NET\nwlink
A:\NET\net start
SPECTRUM24 NDIS CONFIG.SYS FILE

DEVICE=KEYBUFS.SYS
rem load drivers high if SIMM in unit and DOS space needed
rem DEVICE=\DOS\HIMEM.SYS /NOTEST
rem DEVICE=\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS x=D000-DFFF x=E000-EFFF
BUFFERS=40,0
FILES=40
rem DOS=HIGH,UMB
FCBS=4,0
LASTDRIVE=f

rem device=A:\NET\SLAINIT.exe sectionname=SLANDIS
rem SLAINIT is for spectrum24 (not needed in a PRO unit)

DEVICE=A:\NET\IFSHLP.SYS
DEVICE=A:\NET\PROTMAN.DOS /I:A:\NET
rem Above 2 line for ndis attach

DEVICE=A:\NET\SLANDIS.EXE
rem above is Spectrum24 Ethernet driver
  Contact our Applications Engineering Department, app_eng@lanpoint.com, if you wish to use Spectrum24 with NDIS or ODI drivers. We can provide all the files you require for the PCMCIA SRAM card, and give complete instructions to configure your unit to use Spectrum24 and other Wireless Ethernet products.
