Associate Director, Internal Communications

You are a critical point person, responsible for keeping employees up-to-date on the company’s latest initiatives, establishing a voice of authority and trust, and facilitating two-way communications across the company.

You will partner closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver and optimize internal communications that drive employee engagement, help employees understand Instrument’s strategy, purpose and values while fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging.

You will plan, edit and write content for a variety of employee communication channels, including intranet, Slack, newsletters, email, and company-wide meetings, ensuring consistent framing of messages.

What You’ll Do

  • Evaluate Instrument’s existing internal communication processes and practices
  • Develop communications strategy and programs to deliver communications objectives throughout the organization
  • Consult and assist executives with employee communication around important internal announcements and topics such as employee benefits, policy or systems changes, organizational changes, operational initiatives, transparency reports.
  • Manage the cadence and quality of internal communications
  • Ensuring a balanced pace and flow of comms throughout the year
  • Oversee on-demand weekly employee newsletter content and internal company comms
  • Draft comms for executive leaders, making acknowledgements, surfacing support available for employees and/or providing information and actions employees can take to support communities in need
  • Field urgent requests to respond to internal or external events with company communications
  • Orchestrate effective two-way communications with employees
  • Facilitate monthly “ask us anything” town hall with executive leaders
  • Collaborate cross-functionally
  • Work closely with the Brand and Marketing team to develop a deep understanding of the brand and ensure clarity and consistency across internal and external communications
  • Set KPIs for engagement with employee communications content, and use data to inform future decisions about communication work

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 8+ years of experience in a role that works directly with people and/or communications: management, marketing, PR, communications, etc
  • Bachelor's degree in a communications-related field is strongly desired
  • Experience navigating appropriate responses to unexpected, challenging, and often time-sensitive situations
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, given this, is an entirely new role and function
  • You have experience creating safe, two-way communication environments for a diverse workforce
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to guide and participate in a wide range of conversations/interactions, pushing them into productive places
  • Experience and/or deep understanding of change management on a large scale
  • Strong ability to read a room, understand energy contributions, and shift it as needed for productivity
  • Ability to maintain composure, even under ambiguous or stressful circumstances, demonstrating emotions appropriate to the situation
  • Constantly work to be viewed as a trusted advisor to the C-Suite, Executive Leaders, Leadership Team, and all employees
  • Love both high-level strategy and the hands-on work of writing, editing, and executing internal communications
