Eventbrite

Eventbrite teamed up with Instrument to reimagine its product experience and chart a bold vision for the future. Collaborating closely with Eventbrite’s creative team and a brand partner, we brought a new identity and design system to life—placing event discovery at the center to redefine how users connect with the platform.

The Challenge

How does a ticketing service evolve into a dynamic, personalized platform? Eventbrite aimed to move beyond its role as a transactional platform and become a vibrant hub for discovery, community, and connection—an essential marketplace for shared human experiences.

Putting discovery at the center

Moving from utility-based interactions to an emotionally resonant ecosystem required a fundamental shift in how we defined the role of a functional marketplace. To differentiate Eventbrite’s product offering and expand beyond utility, we transformed a bold creative vision into a scalable, executional framework—one built to foster connection, power intuitive discovery, and deliver long-term platform value

Engagement leads to connection

Centering discovery within Eventbrite’s digital experience meant more than surfacing events—it meant reimagining how people find and engage with them. By tapping into the universal need for community and belonging, Eventbrite was uniquely positioned to harness emerging digital behaviors and foster meaningful, lasting connections.

This intersection between human interaction and the event ecosystem became the foundation for a more dynamic, discovery-first experience. It unlocked new content categories, personalized entry points, and a broader expression of Eventbrite’s reach—deepening user relationships and expanding the brand’s role in everyday life.

Identifying valuable moments

Understanding how and when events appear in the lives of Eventbrite’s diverse audience guided our exploration of functional drivers and visual storytelling. We crafted a discovery experience rooted in real-world behavior—surfacing events through community hubs, trending topics, and coordinated planning moments.

This multifaceted approach made discovery more intuitive and relevant while also strengthening attendee networks and generating anticipation for new experiences—deepening platform engagement across the platform.

Creating a system that scales

In partnership with a brand collaborator, we built a modular system grounded in new functional models. By blending visual storytelling with systems thinking and fluid UX interaction, we created a dynamic card-based interface that brought the power and excitement of events to life.

More than just a UI refresh, this robust design system redefined the foundational experience for the Eventbrite app. It elevated the core functionality while equipping the product team with a scaleable, future-ready toolkit, enabling meaningful improvements across the entire digital ecosystem.

Uncovering new meaning

We set out to build a platform that was both visually captivating and action-oriented—one that could inspire users while driving meaningful business results. By designing for sustained engagement, we aimed to increase user joy, grow brand exposure, and boost overall event attendance.

This blend of utility and inspiration enabled Eventbrite to uncover new value in how people discover, plan, and participate in events—reinforcing its position as a vital connector in the lives of its users.

Our refreshed app is designed to make every step of the event journey more intuitive and joyful. By reimagining the design and user journey, we've created something that truly reflects the energy and excitement of live experiences. Thanks to the team at Instrument, we’ve brought this vision to life with our community’s needs at the core, making it easier than ever to discover and connect with events that matter.
