Instrument collaborated with Oura to create a more intuitive app that helps millions of members make sense of daily signals and long-term health trends.
The Challenge
As Oura introduced new features, the app faced a growing challenge: a wealth of meaningful data presented in an interface that didn’t fully unlock its value. Daily signals, long-term patterns, and personalized guidance had become increasingly difficult for users to find, interpret, and act on. The complexity of Oura's expanding ecosystem called for a more intentional hierarchy—one that clarified what mattered in the moment while still supporting deeper exploration and long-term health understanding.
Our Approach
We balanced utility and expression, strengthening comprehension while elevating the emotional resonance of Oura as a brand and product. The new foundation is grounded in progressive disclosure, a unified semantic color language, and a data visualization framework that scales seamlessly.

Evolved Visual Identity
We built on the existing brand to create a new visual language to bring greater clarity, warmth, and cohesion across the product experience. The updated system introduces refined typography, updated grid and layout system, and a simplified component language that supports quick comprehension and emotional resonance.
A semantic color system for instant clarity
To help members instantly understand how their habits and environments support or strain their health, we introduced a unified semantic color system. Coupled with clearer layouts and refined typography, dynamic color cues direct attention to what matters most and make it easier to scan, compare, and act. The result is an experience that feels lighter, faster, and more grounded—helping users stay engaged with their health day after day.
A scalable visualization framework
We rebuilt Oura's data visualizations around three adaptable levels. At the top, abstract at-a-glance indicators use simple rings, bars, and color cues to deliver quick daily insights. Mid-level focused metrics add just enough detail for understanding key vitals and short-term patterns without overwhelming the user. At the deepest level, precise exploratory views offer detailed, often interactive visuals that reveal long-term trends and specific data points across weeks, months, or years.
